The National Transportation Safety Board says child passenger safety laws in 21 states including the Dakotas still do not meet its safety recommendations.
The NTSB has called for state child restraint laws to cover children up to 8 years old. The board says South Dakota’s law covers only children age 4 and younger, and North Dakota’s law applies only to children age 6 and younger.
The NTSB says eight states enacted or upgraded child restraint laws in the past year, but that millions of children remain at risk because of states and U.S. territories that lack robust laws.
