Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn declared three counties disaster areas due to flooding last month that caused severe damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure.
Quinn said Wednesday the flash floods in northwest Illinois on July 27 caused damage in Carroll, Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties that will take residents months to recover from.
The governor said in a statement that personnel from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency have been working with officials in the three counties to coordinate requests for state resources. He adds the state is committed to doing everything possible to help communities recover.
An elderly man was killed in Galena when his car was swept away by floodwaters resulting from 15 inches of rain falling overnight July 27.
