A Hartland Township marketing and Web design firm sued a former client over comments it made about the company online and in a letter to a business networking group.
Five Sparrows filed the defamation suit against James Beasley and his business, Spot Shooter Archery, the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus reported. Five Sparrows created a website for the Holly-based company last year.
Beasley is quoted court in documents as saying his business had “zero return on our investment” on Google’s Google+ platform. He warns people not to work with Five Sparrows.
Zachary Kemp, an attorney for Five Sparrows, said it’s protecting its reputation against false and misleading statements. The company is seeking damages of more than $25,000.
“It’s not just the Google+ review, it’s the comments he made to his networking group,” Kemp said.
The comment was posted on the Google site between December and January, while the letter to the business networking group BNI was sent in November, according to court documents.
Beasley said the dispute has been “blown way out of proportion.” He will use truth to defend himself in court, he said.
“I’m just going to tell the truth and see what happens,” Beasley said.
