Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says the vast majority of debris that resulted from flooding in the St. Louis area has been cleared.
Nixon said Feb. 3 that 96 percent of identified flood debris has been removed from the St. Louis region, where hundreds of homes were damaged in flooding that followed three days of heavy rain in December. The Meramec River was responsible for the worst of the flooding in suburban St. Louis. The Mississippi River also saw significant flooding, particularly in southeast Missouri.
Missouri’s Operation Recovery program has removed and disposed of 2,412 tons of construction and demolition debris, 1,168 tons of sand and more than 23,000 household items.
Meanwhile, Nixon says $6.4 million in federal disaster assistance payments have been made to individual flood victims across the state.
