AXA XL Reinsurance appoints Peter Kiernan as Head of US Property, Bermuda Reinsurance and Simon Penney, Head of Underwriting Analytics

AXA XL Reinsurance has appointed Peter Kiernan as head of US Property, Bermuda Reinsurance, effective July 1. He will be based in Bermuda. Peter replaces Simon Penney, who is relocating to London to take up a new global role as Head of Underwriting Analytics.

Kiernan will be responsible for the US property strategy and execution of business underwritten through AXA XL’s Reinsurance Bermuda operation. He has over 30 years of industry experience with a proven track record of underwriting and business development in the US Property space.

Penney, who started his career at Zurich Financial Services in 2005 before joining XL Catlin as an Actuary in 2007, will be returning to the UK to take up his new role on July 4. As head of underwriting analytics, London, he will be responsible for pricing standards, in-house views of risk, and portfolio management across all areas of the Reinsurance segment. Simon will report to Jonathan Gale, chief underwriting officer, Reinsurance and Acting CEO Bermuda Reinsurance.

Norman Heinrich Appointed CEO of Tokio Marine Highland

P/C insurance underwriting agency Tokio Marine Highland appointed Norman Heinrich chief executive officer. He succeeds Pat Blandford, who stepped down after serving nearly two decades in multiple leadership roles, including CEO since 2018.

Heinrich brings deep expertise and more than 35 years of experience in the P/C industry. He joined Tokio Marine Highland (formerly WNC Insurance Services) in 1995 to build the company’s private flood insurance division, growing the product line into a market leader with sustained underwriting profitability.

Most recently, Heinrich served as chief underwriting officer, coordinating the underwriting operations and relationships between Tokio Marine Highland and its parent company Tokio Marine Kiln.

QBE Re North America announces promotions as part of strategic growth ambitions

QBE Re has announced several promotions and appointments for its New York office.

Salvatore Sama has been appointed head of US Financial & Professional lines and Casualty Treaty. He joined QBE Re in April 2021 as senior vice president – head of US Financial and Professional lines from Swiss Re. The Fin Pro and Casualty sub classes have been merged under Sal’s leadership to further unify the product offering.

Jane Farren was promoted to the role of vice president, US Financial & Professional Lines having previously held the role of lead Financial & Professional lines treaty underwriter.

Tim Barber was named general manager for North America on a permanent basis, having assumed the role on an interim basis in April. Prior to this, he was head of Casualty treaty London since 2011. Tim will also perform the role of global head of Casualty Treaty.
