New Orleans Agent Arrested

December 18, 2002

A former insurance and bail bond agent was arrested by the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit and Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators issued her a cease and desist order in what the department said was the second such action taken within a week.

According to the LDI, the cease and desist order states that Anndrea LaSalle Irons, 2620 Banks Street, New Orleans, allegedly misappropriated or improperly withheld money paid to her by individuals for bail bonds. The C&D order also states that she has been operating with an expired insurance license.

Department of Insurance records show that the bail bond license of Anndrea LaSalle Irons expired on May 1 of last year. She had held a bail bond license since April 1998 and a life and health license from July 1987 to May 2000.

“Insurance fraud is a particularly insidious crime,” Acting Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley says, “because it robs people of the very peace of mind they seek when they pay their insurance premiums.”

In earlier action, LDI and State Police Fraud Units conducted a joint search of the A Plus Insurance Agency in Alexandria last week, which resulted in the suspension of insurance licenses and the drug-related arrest of insurance agent James Dauzat of Alexandria.

Consumers who have paid money to Anndrea LaSalle Irons for any bail bond or other insurance-related services during the past three years should contact the insurance company right away to learn the status of their coverage, Wooley says. If they have trouble contacting the company or find they have paid out money that the insurance company or companies did not receive, they should call the department at (800) 259-5300 or (225) 342-5900, for assistance as soon as possible.
