A Southeast Texas city still recovering from 2008’s Hurricane Ike has access to more than $21 million in funds previously frozen in a public housing dispute.
The Galveston County Daily reported Tuesday that the Texas General Land Office will release money for non-housing projects.
The agency, which administers Community Development Block Grant money, has offered funds for road work or reconstruction of a water pump station. The Galveston City Council will meet Thursday to consider which project gets the latest funding.
The General Land Office in April put about $103 million in federal funds on hold in a dispute over where to rebuild public housing destroyed by Ike.
Agency spokesman Jim Suydam (SOO’-dam) said Tuesday that Galveston is working cooperatively to accomplish what was committed for public housing.
