President Barack Obama has signed a disaster declaration for areas of Oklahoma affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding in early May.
The declaration signed on May 26 makes federal funding available to individuals whose property was damaged in storms in Cleveland, Grady and Oklahoma counties May 5-10.
Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Gov. Mary Fallin requested the disaster declaration on May 19. Since then, the state has experienced widespread rainfall and flash flooding.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
