The National Insurance Crime Bureau says the 1995 Honda Accord was the most likely automobile to be stolen in South Carolina in 2006.
The 1999 Chevrolet full size C/K 1500 pickup ranked second on the list, followed by the 1996 Ford Explorer, the 1997 Ford F150 Series and the 2000 Honda Civic.
Nationally, the 1995 Honda Civic was thieves’ Number One choice, followed by the 1991 Honda Accord, 1989 Toyota Camry, 1997 Ford F150 Series and the 2005 Dodge Ram pickup.
NCIB says that the number of vehicles stolen in South Carolina has continued to rise, despite a slight decline in the national auto theft rate.
In 2006, 16,402 vehicles were stolen in South Carolina, up from 16,358 a year before.
Last year, 1,192,809 vehicles were stolen nationwide, compared to 1,235,226 in 2005.
