Feds Complete West Virginia Explosion Report

September 12, 2008

Federal investigators are wrapping up a probe of a fatal propane explosion at a Raleigh County, West Virginia convenience store in January 2007.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board said it will release its final report on the blast Sept. 25. Four people were killed and five injured when the explosion leveled the Little General Store in Ghent on Jan. 30, 2007.

Investigators already have traced the blast to propane leaking from an outdoor tank. The Safety Board says the report will look at evacuation procedures for propane releases, propane technician training, hazardous materials training for firefighters and 9-1-1 emergency call procedures.

The board says it’s going to release the report at a public meeting planned for the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley.
