A march of Florida’s state capital to protest the shooting of Trayvon Martin has been canceled due to a lack of insurance.
Organizers with the National Christian League of Councils said they are canceling a march to protest the shooting death of Trayvon Martin after being turned down by every major wholesaler in the southeast.
Dr. Bobby Doctor, with NCLC, said that the group had been working with three different insurance agencies to purchase the coverage, but were told that insurance companies considered the march too controversial and risky.
The NCLC had obtained a permit from the City of Tallahassee and expected a crowd of over 4,000 to show up. The city, however, said that since the march would require closing roadways the organizers needed to obtain the coverage. Otherwise the marchers would be confined to sidewalks.
Martin was a 17-year-old black teen who was shot and killed earlier this month in Sanford, FL., by another local resident. His shooting has led to protests around state including, one held yesterday in Sanford.
