Mississippi Man Charged with Property Insurance Fraud

September 18, 2013

A Washington County, Mississippi man has been charged with three counts of insurance fraud involving property claims.

Attorney General Jim Hood said in a news release that 31-year-old Oliver Johnson of Greenville was being held in the county jail earlier this week pending an initial court appearance.

Hood said an indictment alleges that between March 10, 2012, and Feb. 26, 2013, Johnson signed up for insurance with three companies but never paid the initial premium and later claimed to have damage to his vehicle which was covered under the policy.

The indictment alleges the damage to Johnson’s vehicle occurred before the effective date of the policy. Johnson is alleged to have submitted false accident reports as well as fraudulent bank records. He was not paid on any claims.
