The Waccamaw River near the South Carolina coast has finally gone back into its banks after 29 days of flooding following Hurricane Florence.
The National Weather Service says the river level at Conway dipped below the flood stage of 11 feet (3.4 meters) just after midnight Sunday.
That Waccamaw River gauge has been over that level since early Sept. 16, two days after Florence made landfall in North Carolina, dumping more than 2 feet (61 centimeters) of rain in areas upstream.
The river set a record at nearly 21.2 feet (6.5 meters) on Sept. 26, breaking the old record set two years ago from heavy rains after Hurricane Matthew by 3.3 feet (1 meter).
The river flooded nearly 1,000 homes around Conway.
