East Carolina University reported new COVID-19 clusters at two more dormitories on Monday, two days before the school transitions to online instructions.
The school issued an alert saying six positive cases had been reported each at Jones Hall and White Hall. According to school officials, the people in the two clusters have been identified, and the school is working with the Pitt County Health Department. The school also says contact tracing has begun with direct communication to anyone determined to have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
On Saturday, clusters were reported at five dormitories and a sorority at ECU. The school also reported a cluster within the football team on Thursday.
ECU has already announced that it will move undergraduate courses online for the remainder of the fall semester, beginning Aug. 26. Professional and graduate courses will continue as they are currently operating at ECU. Fall classes began at ECU on Aug. 10.
University residence halls will begin moving students out this week through Aug. 30. The university will work with international students, student athletes and hardship cases who apply to continue to live on campus, the university said.
