Two South Carolina women filed an auto accident claim with First Acceptance Insurance Co. in May and were paid more than $25,500 for bodily injury medical expenses. Then investigators found out that the women had fabricated the entire incident, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said this week.
Unique Shavon Johnson, 29, and Jamela Janea Jolly, 33, both of Myrtle Beach, claimed the vehicle they were in had been struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver and they were injured. But investigators with First Acceptance and the state law enforcement division (known as SLED) uncovered inconsistencies in the women’s stories and said the accident had never happened.
The women were charged with filing false claims and were booked into the Horry County jail Aug. 7, SLED said in a statement. Both were released on bond.
First Acceptance, with offices in Nashville, was purchased in 2023 by Confie, part of Alliant Insurance. The company offers auto, renters and life insurance products.
