The National Weather Service has classified the windstorm that damaged 16 homes near Gillette last weekend as a tornado.
The Gillette News Record reported that the weather service says the EF-1 tornado with wind speeds nearly 100 mph struck Sunday in the Freedom Hills area. No injuries were reported.
Three of the 16 homes affected by the tornado are considered to have sustained major damage.
The tornado’s maximum path width was 365 yards, and it was on the ground for about four minutes.
The weather service’s findings on the tornado are preliminary and are subject to change pending final review of the event.
