An environmental group says oil and gas companies drilling off Southern California violated state regulations nearly 400 times in the past three years.
Records obtained by The Associated Press that were released Wednesday by the Center for Biological Diversity show problems ranging from severe corrosion to failed well tests. No civil penalties were issued.
The group says violations could pose a serious threat to the environment.
The findings come from a public records request to the state Department of Conservation, which regulates oil and gas facilities.
Results show the state’s largest oil and gas producer, California Resources Corporation and its subsidiaries were responsible for nearly 300 of the 381 violations since 2015. Those violations were for operations in Long Beach and off the coast of Huntington Beach.
