Churchill Downs Inc. and the Jockeys’ Guild have reached an agreement to subsidize riders’ health insurance, life insurance and disability benefits for members of the Guild who ride in the United States.
Terms of the multiyear agreement between the parties were not disclosed, but the Jockeys’ Guild currently provides life insurance, temporary disability benefits and other benefits to its riders, as well as life insurance and aid to permanent disabled members.
Jockeys’ Guild national manager Terry Meyocks said in a statement that the latest agreement will directly benefit approximately 950 active, retired and permanently disabled members.
Jockeys’ Guild members at the Churchill race tracks will continue to contribute a per-mount fee to such insurance policies, the announcement said, while Churchill said will make insurance contributions at its four tracks, which are located in Churchill Downs, Calder, Arlington Park and Fair Grounds.
