Professionals seeking to attain Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation now have a new option. A Certified Risk Managers (CRM) course will now be accepted in place of one of the five CIC institutes and examinations that are currently required. The decision was made following a meeting of the CIC Board of Governors in Austin. The Society of CIC, the not-for-profit organization that developed the CIC Program in 1969, recognized the quality of the faculty and curriculum of the five-year-old CRM Program, and the growing emphasis on risk management in the current hard market. Under the new guidelines, either Principles of Risk Management, Control of Risk, Analysis of Risk, Financing of Risk, or the Practice of Risk Management can be taken in place of Personal Lines, Commercial Casualty, Commercial Property, Life & Health, or Agency Management. The Society of CIC is a member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, an organization that provides insurance and risk management professionals with advanced educational opportunities, including the CISR and CRM Programs, James K. Ruble Seminars, and the Dynamics series.
