Gov. Brad Henry has signed legislation requiring Senate confirmation of his nominees to the Workers’ Compensation Court that was similar to a measure he vetoed last year.
Henry signed the legislation June 8 along with a second bill involving workers’ compensation. They are among four measures that supporters say will help reduce workers’ compensation costs in the state.
Henry vetoed a bill requiring Senate confirmation of Workers’ Compensation Court judges in 2009, saying it would replace an efficient process with a highly politicized system that causes gridlock.
The bill also reduces the number of Workers’ Compensation Court judges from 10 to eight and requires that five judges be assigned to Oklahoma City and three to Tulsa. The measure also requires judges to have five years experience in the field.
