A wildfire fueled by Santa Ana winds that in southeast of Los Angeles, forcing about 4,000 people from their homes, has grown to 2,4897 acres and is now 20% contained.
The Highland Fire started Monday afternoon in unincorporated Riverside County.
About 1,300 homes and 4,000 residents were initially under evacuation orders.
More than 1,200 personnel and 137 engines are working on the fire, according to CalFire.
“Fire behavior throughout the day was mild,” a CalFire update on Thursday stated. “Minimal fire growth allowed firefighters to continue building hand and dozer line along the fire perimeter. Numerous smokes were observed on the incident, many difficult to access in steep, rocky terrain. Predicted changes in wind conditions over the next few days could increase the possibility of spots across the line. Crews will continue working overnight, focused on holding the fire within its current perimeter.”
