Rhode Island Radio Host, Ex-Politician to Admit to Fraud

June 1, 2011

A Rhode Island radio personality and a former North Providence town council president are set to admit to taking part in an insurance fraud scheme.

Lori Sergiacomi — known on air as Tanya Cruise — and Robert Ricci are scheduled to plead guilty this week in federal court in Providence. Sergiacomi is expected to plead Thursday. Ricci is expected to enter his plea today. He was not in office at the time prosecutors say the fraud took place.

Prosecutors say Sergiacomi, Ricci, former North Providence Councilman John Zambarano and insurance adjuster Vincent DiPaolo conspired to damage Sergiacomi’s home and pool and submit bogus insurance claims that paid out about $40,000. Zambarano received a six-year sentence on the insurance fraud and separate corruption charges.

DiPaolo has pleaded not guilty.
