Teenage drivers can now share their own safety tips and experiences behind the wheel with other teens across Florida.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says the site, TakeTheWheel.net, was created by teens for teens. The interactive site allows teen drivers to also give advice and challenge one another to take charge of their own actions behind the wheel.
The department’s spokeswoman, Electra Theodorides-Bustle, said driving instructors are also encouraged to use the Web site.
The announcement was made on Oct. 6.
More than 36,000 teen drivers in Florida were involved in car crashes last year, according to the department of motor vehicles. More than 479 people were killed in an accident where a teen was driving in 2007.
